Dr Bryan Barry is an interventional radiologist with a dedicated clinical focus on minimally invasive treatments for thyroid nodules and thyroid enlargement.

He is an Australian pioneer in thyroid nodule ablation using radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation. He is also among the first interventional radiologists in Australia to offer thyroid artery embolisation as a treatment for thyroid volume reduction. His practice is focused on providing carefully selected patients with image-guided alternatives to surgery and radioactive iodine.

Dr Barry has presented on thyroid ablation and thyroid artery embolisation at national conferences and has contributed to local and national courses, workshops and educational meetings dedicated to minimally invasive thyroid treatment. He is actively involved in developing clinical pathways, professional education and awareness of interventional radiology options for thyroid disease.

He studied medicine at University College Dublin and completed an interventional radiology fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London in 2017. He has previously worked at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital.

Dr Barry currently holds appointments at Liverpool Hospital, Sutherland Hospital and Sydney Southwest Private Hospital. He is also a member of the Spectrum Interventional Radiology and Spectrum Medical Imaging teams across several Spectrum practices.

He is a member of the Interventional Radiology Society of Australasia and its Interventional Oncology Special Interest Group. He is also a member of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe and was awarded the European Board of Interventional Radiology qualification in 2023.

Dr Barry’s thyroid practice encompasses radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation and thyroid artery embolisation, together with the image-guided assessment and treatment planning required to determine the most appropriate approach for each patient.
